The Compromise
an infant rescued
from a watery grave
led to die
in the desert
a mother's obedience
a son's disobedience
and in between
a compromise
I'm going to Arizona next week (i.e. the Desert) and that got me thinking about Moses. When you grow up teething on a church pew, you simply cannot help but think of the causionary Bilble stories you heard over and over in Sunday School as they are forever linked to certain settings. (i.e. Desert=Moses) As a child, the story of Moses appealed to me....and not just because I envied his sister Miriam for being able to send her little brother upstream, but because I loved the drama (the parting of the Red Sea, Moses pitching a temper tantrum and breaking the tablets, the pillars of cloud and fire...).
Although it's the theatrics of Moses' wanderings that I relished, my journey will hopefully be starkly different:
Moses: followed by throngs of complaining Isrealites; plagued by frogs, locusts and sundry other critters; given to temper tantrums and unable to enjoy the fruits of his labor as a result; sister stricken with leoprosy (which of course made me glad I didn't send Ed up the Mississippi); manna, manna, and more manna every day for lunch.
Me: by myself able to come and go at will (T will be visiting foreign lands and this venture will pass one weekend for me); 3 resort swimming pools; a Spa with an already-scheduled massage; a visit to Sedona; photos, photos, and more photos.
So I won't be the Father/Mother of a Nation....somebody has to sacrifice.
It will be a restful, rejuvenating trip for you :-) I am sooo envious. And the photos you'll take - oh my, can't wait!

Love the photo (there were cat tails where I grew up, in a pond near our first house) and the absolutely inspired poem. I really wish I'd been able to make that trip - you'll have so much fun, I'm sure! Yes, please lots of photos!

Dessert spa and massage and photo ops galore, hardly wandering aimlessly in the dessert. I soooo want to meet you there and endure some pampering!
