My own quilt block against a quilt of my Grandmother's
my roots grew
from her budding threads and fabrics--
legacy garden
Yes, another quilt themed post :-). As I started to add another border to this block, the connection of how one generation influences another brought about the background for this haiku....my little Ah Ha!
As I have stated in previous posts, I cannot sit at my sewing machine without thinking of my Grandmother. I also cannot remember a time when I did not sleep in a bed in which I was covered by a quilt made by my Grandma (at home, of course). As a girl, I loved to search through the patches on a quilt made especially for me for remnants of fabric that my Grandma had used to make me cotton dresses. In teaching me to sew, my Grandma provided me with not only a valuable life skill but with the pleasures of designing something unique and of knowing that through my love of creativity and quilting, a part of her lives on.
for One Deep Breath
P.S. Yes, Maria, that is the block for your tote bag and don't worry, the borders are burgundy :-)
fondest memories
return each generation
like threaded needles
over the years this
history creates a quilt
of shared heritage

I'm way behind in reading, but I am so so glad that you are quilting! How exciting. My Mom's recently started quilting again and I hope to make her teach me!! I think your quilt block is beautiful!!

Sooz,
Your post aside from being lovely reminded me of my grandmother. They are rare gems aren't they?
Your quilt is luscious--makes me want to take a nap!
BTW April 23, a month before me, Taurus!
