My own quilt block against a quilt of my Grandmother's
my roots grew
from her budding threads and fabrics--
legacy garden
Yes, another quilt themed post :-). As I started to add another border to this block, the connection of how one generation influences another brought about the background for this haiku....my little Ah Ha!
As I have stated in previous posts, I cannot sit at my sewing machine without thinking of my Grandmother. I also cannot remember a time when I did not sleep in a bed in which I was covered by a quilt made by my Grandma (at home, of course). As a girl, I loved to search through the patches on a quilt made especially for me for remnants of fabric that my Grandma had used to make me cotton dresses. In teaching me to sew, my Grandma provided me with not only a valuable life skill but with the pleasures of designing something unique and of knowing that through my love of creativity and quilting, a part of her lives on.
for One Deep Breath
P.S. Yes, Maria, that is the block for your tote bag and don't worry, the borders are burgundy :-)
The quilt block is lovely, and so is the haiku.
I have very simliar memories of my great grandmother and quilts, and my very favorite one is a star pattern made from scraps of my play clothes and dresses. She made a miniature one for my doll cribs to match!

A beautiful post to go along with a beautiful haiku. Your words brought back some memories of my grandmother teaching me to quilt - on her old Singer treadle machine.

Yes! Delightful!
My roommate is getting married and her family and friends have been making her a suprise quilt as an extra gift (i.e, in addition to individual shower and wedding gifts). I can only imagine what joy that will bring her as her married life blooms.

Susan,
"through my love of creativity and quilting, a part of her lives on."
And that makes all the difference!
Your legacy garden is thriving under your green thumb.

That block is lovely, as is the quilt. Wrap around memories, the best kind. You have a wonderful legacy.
