Cappuccino at Mara's Italian Bakery in North Beach (San Francisco)
Six cafes/restaurants/pubs in less than ten hours....not bad, or not good, depending on how you look at it. For The Record, Maria and I either shared something bitesized, took turns, or just had drinks as we ate our way from Union Square to Ghirardelli Square and back through China Town.
Taste Stop #1-- a Starbucks near the Transamerica Pyramid where we bought a bottled water mostly so that I could use the potty.(so really, this doesn't count aside from the fact that we sat there a while and looked at the map too)
Taste Stop #2-- Brioche Bakery where we shared a delectable brownie. It was the sort of small cafe/boulangerie/patisserie that reminded me of Paris. After the brownie stop, we spent some time in City Lights books (but this is a topic for it's own post).
Taste Stop #3--Mara's Italian Bakery...as you can see for yourself, the window beacons to strollers-by. And there was no leaving the North Beach area without having at least ONE cappuccino. I also had a biscotti which was authentic and fresh. Mara' has some mixed reviews online but I would DEFINiTELY pop back in for a cappuccino...okay...and biscotti as well.
Taste Stop #4 -- Marche on the Square (Ghirardelli Sq. that is). Let me say unabashedly that I am SOOO glad that I decided to have some real food (even after the number of snacks that had already accumulated). How a French-named restaurant/wine bar comes to serve the BEST sushi that I have ever eaten is beyond me...but if you visit SF, do try Marche.
The view from our table at Marche on the Square (yes, that's a cupcake bag...I bought the cupcake to take back to St. Louis for my mom but....well, do I even have to explain?)
Taste Stop #5 -- O'Neill's Irish Pub. Maria had a Guiness (pretty, isn't it?!) and I, a hot tea. They had "Irish Fries" on the menu but I'm not so easily fooled.
Taste Stop #6 -- Far East Cafe (Chinatown)...it didn't seem right to leave Chinatown without having a cup of tea and it didn't seem right having JUST a cup of tea, ergo the spring rolls. This was hours later and after miles and miles of walking so we indulged yet again.
A coin rolled off of the table and fell onto the floor. When Maria asked if I could see it, I innocently replied, "Yes, it fell into the C." (Guess you had to be there :-)
